Child Accident Prevention Trust

Iain’s Trust are delighted to be working in partnership with the Child Accident Prevention Trust (CAPT) in order to highlight the dangers of young children around cars. CAPT have been working hard over recent years producing and distributing information which highlights many dangers our children may encounter. They have kindly agreed to include our information regarding the risks of young children around cars.

Preliminary Survey Results

We had a huge response to our survey, conducted in conjunction with RoSPA and now have some preliminary results. A staggering 42% of respondents reported that their children had picked up the family car keys without being seen to do so. Of those almost 10% reported that their children had gained access to the vehicle parked on their drive. Without a secondary safety feature, any one of these case could have resulted in a serious accident or fatality.

Please keep your car keys well out the reach of children, preferably locked, please see Minimise the Risks. Remember they can be exceptionally good climbers.

Vauxhall Have Made the Change! 

The new Insignia has a secondary safety device as proposed by Iain’s Trust. This is the first mass car manufacturer to ensure cars can not be started by young children and we are most grateful – thank you General Motors.

We are in the process of designing a leaflet highlighting the dangers of young children around cars. After a number of false collaborations we are wanting to move on with this alone and distribute to Nurseries, Primary Schools, Health Visitors etc. If you can help please get in touch, thank you.
